Also broken?

Laptop. Was downloading the new version of iTunes, and computer froze up. iTunes icon disappeared. All songs are still on the computer, but I can't get to them. I tried to re-download iTunes upgrade, no such luck. Awesome. what.next.

Stop talking about broken things!!! And whatever you do, stop asking, "What next?!?"

That sucks, Von. As one who is still trying to figure out where all of my backup data is on the other computer, I can commiserate.

Do not accept suggestions from ITTDGY, especially if they involve wine.

ZRM has witnessed the method for getting the recalcitrant winetop to boot up.

I lift it up on the monitor side a couple inches, and let it drop to the table.

Then it recognizes its memory again.

Do you really want your family applying that treatment to you when the Alzheimers takes hold?

I know I do.

Also, here's a good one:

Drink a glass of wine.

Have another.

Go to the Apple Store.

Sorry, Von. I know that's not helpful, especially when the Apple store won't take cars on trade-in.

If you can still see all the music files, I think you can just d/l iTunes and install from scratch. You can import the files back in.

Or, you know, what Zombie said.

Assuming this is windows, you probably need to run the iTunes uninstaller before you try to reinstall. Also, you may still have the previous version installer on your drive, possibly in "Downloads", you might try installing that instead of the upgrade. And in the meantime, assuming at least some, if not most, of your music is DRM free mp3s, there are a lot of free music players you can use to listen to your songs until you do get it fixed.

You're the only person I know who doesn't just show up at my door with the defective computer and a bottle of scotch. About which I have mixed emotions...

Mikey, any time you want to cook for me, I'll bring the scotch, and MAYBE a broken computer.

Be sure to back up your library on a flash drive!

See, B4, that's what I was trying to do....and then it went wonky.

Hell, I'll cook for anyone. Just about any excuse to get in the kitch works for me.

If, at some point you have a spare $200, look at getting an External USB hard drive and a small, technological miracle called, believe it or not, the "Pogoplug". It will change your life, along with the way you store, play and share music, movies, pictures and anything else you have on your 'puter...
