This is an admission of a guilty pleasure, I guess, but:

I love Sarah McLaughlin's cover of "Blackbird," and I can't stand the original.

Happy Friday!

my fav used to be Billy Corgan's Landslide, but lately I've been feeling wooed back to Stevie. Another fav is the Indigo Girls' Romeo & Juliet, but giving that answer just makes me feel very very old.
How about Darren Criss/Glee's Teenage Dream? L.O.V.E.

Nothing wrong with these answers!!!
Currently, mine is "Bring it on Home" by Sam Cooke, remade by Sister Hazel. This has been mine for a looooong time. But there are others.
OOH and super YES to Darren Criss/Teenage Dream.
And John Mayer throwing a little "Dreams to Remember" in with "Gravity" during live shows.

I do love that Billy Corigan version of "Landslide."

All-time, I'd probably say The Who's cover of "Summertime Blues" by Blue Cheer. Recently, probably The Futureheads version of "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush. They really took that song and made it sound completely different while keeping what makes it a great song in the first place.

Too many to mention, or remember! :)

One that pops into my head though is Tom Waits, "Sea of Love". I loved the creepy edge to it.

Ok, and Rare Earth's, "Get Ready"

I'm sure they'll start flooding in now...

At the risk of sounding like a pedantic bastard, "Summertime Blues" was originally done by Eddie Cochran.

I love Sid's version of "My Way".

I should know that, B4. Good correction. And fantastic call on "My Way."

Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is another one. Holy cow, does that pack a punch.

K just reminded me of another favourite: The Dixie Chicks' Landslide.

Johnny Cash and "Hurt" is pretty near the best remake, evah. Joe Cocker singing "With a Little Help From M Friends" is also up there.
For laffs I like Marilyn Manson's "Tainted Love", which is funny and better than the drippy duo.

Goldfingers "99 Red Balloons" is about six orders of magnitude better than the original.

I also quite like Juice Newton's "Queen of Hearts", although my sentimental connection to Rockpile makes it very heard to admit it. Dave Edmunds could never be eclipsed...

I had no particular answer until this.

THIS.

O please, go watch the video. The way June looks at Johnny.....

Rick Rubin is a GENIUS, for his work with Johnny alone.

After that, local ska punks Something 2 Do perform FANTASTIC covers of Pump It Up, Rebel Yell, and Just What I Needed.

Speaking of which, Those Darn Accordions do inspired covers of Pump It Up (natch), Devil Went Down To Georgia, We're An Accordion Band, and Da Ya Think I'm Sexy (featuring Clyde) and many others.

Another shout out for a Sarah Mclachlan cover of a song, I love her cover of XTC's "Dear God." I've loved it since I first heard it waaaay back in '95.

Love the Hurt cover.

Also Cowboy Junkies cover of Sweet Jane. Not an improvement over LR's which also kicks ass, but a completely new song.

Then there is Celine Dion's cover of You Shook Me All Night Long...

WOW
Fish, for the win.
Forgot all about Sweet Jane. I'm changing my answer.
