I have it on good authority that their natural habitat is the area immediately surrounding, and under bridges.
So, to avoid trolls, avoid bridges (Lloyd is probably OK). On the other hand, to follow the instruction and keep an eye out for trolls, one should position oneself where one has an unobstructed sightline to a suspicious bridge, and settle in and watch. Maybe bring a sammich, and an apple. A little Sailor Jerry's couldn't hurt, either.
