Your thoughts?

I've got a hankerin' to do a small, wee, one might even call it tiny stripe of fun color in my hair this summer. I'm thinking purple (fav) or blue (might be pretty). I'm thinking I'd like to do a small hardly noticeable horizontal stipe from ear to ear at the underside of my hair. So, a whole lot more understated than a vertical stripe or two or ten. SO. The problem is ChicagoBoss. Though I can find no where in our handbook where such an idea is taboo, CB strongly (and a little sternly) frowns upon this idea. This idea is gnawing at me like a rabid racoon and will not cease and desist. It's been about 6 months now. I've presented the arguement that one thing I have a lot of is hair, and I can pin up the aforementioned colorful stripe at a moment's notice should we have important visitors, or if I need to run an errand to a client, etc. CB is, well, highly doubtful. I would love to have some ideas as to how to convince CB and the rest of my boss-people that this is a good idea. Or if not a good idea, something they will let me do. Because they love me? Or maybe because they are fully behind backing my whim, as it will have zero effect on my performance and productivity. I lay it at your feet, my interfriends. Advise me please.

I'm hardly an authoritative voice on the subject of office dress (I only wearing pants for my salary review), it's generally wise to keep your paycheck-provider happy.

You could always compromise on a semi-natural colour, like red, or a reddish purple, or really is anyone going to notice if it's actually purple? You should totally do that.

Like I said, don't ever take me advice.

I have no idea about CB but totally dig stripes of color in the hair...

I'm the wrong guy to ask. I wear an earring every day and almost always have unresolved hair. My boss hates me.

Besides, Jennifer will probably be right by to start another comment-frenzy.

I agree with going for a purple that could be misconstrued as a red that kind of went purple vs Von pissing off the boss and just using PURPLE!

Does anyone really even notice that these days? What you're describing sounds pretty tame. Maybe if you go in with a blazin' wig and, after CB regains consciousness, you remove the wig to show your lovely and subtle stripe...

ZRM- don't piss me off...

Or what? You'll unleash the Zardoz on Von? Doesn't seem fair, somehow....

Von, it seems so unremarkable, considering the amount of highlighting people are doing nowadays.

Course, I live on the east side of Milwaukee, where bright pink mohawks still roam....

Zardoz has been put away for the meantime.

I say Von goes into work in a Zardoz getup and again, a few colorful streaks will pale in comparison.

Aren't we helpful, Von?

Why don't you sick the rabid raccoon on CB. Once CB is in the throes of rabies or rabies' shots... s/he won't care about a little summer color and my just think s/he is hallucinating.

I say Do IT.

Get a couple of drinks, do the hair, then a big tattoo on the wrist and up the arm.

Or maybe shave your head! That would be cool too!!

I say go for it. But my hairdresser said the purple is REALLY hard to keep. I guess it looks awesome for maybe a day.

Thank you all for the advice.
MenD - You give good advice,I know this for a fact, I welcome your input.
Jennifer - thank you for commenting!! And the advice.
ZRM - As always, your sage words give me help.
"Just DO it" - I have heard this more than once. We have an all company meeting coming up in June in NYC, I'm thinking after that I will just go for it. I'm pretty excited about it!
:)

P.S. - A new tattoo is also in the works, but it will be on my foot or ankle, sorry, not on the arm.

Depends on how far they have to let the toxic chemicals seep into your brains.
